 Mayor & Council
Mayor

Mayor John Smith is committed to opening lines of communication with residents. His previous experience as a council member (2002-2006) provided the opportunity for him to see how important it is to make informed decisions and offer as much information to the community as possible. His accomplishments include a role in maintaining a low property tax and improving communication between the police department and council. "I chose to run for council then mayor because I want to positively affect people's lives," said Mayor Smith.  Mayor Smith has lived in Hickory Creek for seven years and is married with three children.

Councilwoman Lynn Clark,Mayor Pro Tem, Council Place 1
Lynn Clark has lived in Hickory Creek since 2000, and has served as Treasurer of the Hickory Creek Economic Development Corporation since it was formed in 2003.  Hickory Creek was recently named the 9th Best Place to Live in the Metroplex by D Magazine, and Lynn believes we are poised for a great future.  She looks forward to working on development projects and reducing the impact of I-35 on our neighborhoods.  “I want to work together with other councilmen to make sure our development and infrastructure is carefully planned, and that we continue to enjoy the small town feel we all enjoy,” said Clark.  Lynn has been described as a “thoughtful decision maker,” and believes that her two greatest strengths are listening before she speaks and weighing matters before she acts.  Lynn and her husband Bob have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren.

Councilman Richard Dupree, Councilman Place 2

A former resident of Tucson, Arizona, Richard Dupree and his wife, Char, had been to Hickory Creek several times to visit his daughter and grandchildren.  After taking early retirement from Hughes/Raytheon, they moved to Hickory Creek in 2001 drawn to the small town atmosphere and being close to family.  Having served on several state boards and commissions previously, Richard decided to get involved in the community of Hickory Creek.  Richard began with community emergency response training (CERT); this was followed by Citizens Fire Academy, Citizens Corps Council, and helping to start the Hickory Creek Citizens on Patrol (COP).  He has served on the Board of Adjustments and his volunteer acitivities earned Richard Citizen of the Year in 2008.

"I have a deep appreciation for the way our current Mayor and council govern and feel privileged to be a part of it.  I will continue to emphasize community emergency preparedness, but want to join our council at building respect, trust, and compassion in our beautiful town."

Councilman Chris Gordon, Council Place 3
It took Chris Gordon almost 20 years of living throughout the Metroplex before he found Hickory Creek, a hidden treasure. He currently works for Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. as a sales manager.  Chris’s wife Jennifer is the National Sales Manager for the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau.  They have a beautiful daughter named Emma who was born in August 2006. The Gordon’s also have three dogs --Chewy, Chase, and Sophie -- and a cat, Harley, who runs the show. Both of their families live in the area.
