This morning, construction began on the Ronald Reagan/Turbeville intersection. Unfortunately, this will involve closing that intersection, with limited access to residents. This will be an inconvenience that will last approximately 14 days. Flagmen will be on hand to direct traffic, but you may have to wait to be able to turn on to Ronald Reagan. Turbeville will be closed to thru traffic between Point Vista and Turbeville while the eastern half of the intersection is completed; allowing Turbeville between Ronald Reagan and Parkridge to remain open. When the eastern half of the intersection is complete, the western half will be closed as well as Turbeville between Ronald Reagan and Harbor Lane. Turbeville between Point Vista and Ronald Reagan will then be open to traffic, with flagmen available to help the flow of traffic. We trust that our residents, while finding the closure quite the inconvenience, will enjoy the benefits of the new intersection when complete. For further information or comments, please call town hall at 940-497-2528 or email the Director of Public Works, Jeffrey McSpedden at jeffrey.mcspedden@hickorycreek-tx.gov.

Hickory Creek, Texas, was named a 2012 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 6th year Hickory Creek has earned the national designation. Hickory Creek achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values and commercial activity are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. More information on the Foundation and its programs can be found at arborday.org.

The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center’s Municipal Traffic Safety Initiative, funded by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation, recently sponsored a Traffic Safety Award to recognize those who work in local municipalities that have made outstanding contributions to their community in an effort to increase traffic safety. All municipal courts in the State of Texas were eligible to apply.

Eighteen courts were selected to receive awards: of these, five were in small volume courts, serving a population below 30,000. Hickory Creek was selected for the second straight year by a panel of judges to receive recognition for their initiatives and hard work.

Hickory Creek Municipal Court will be honored at the TMCEC Traffic Safety Conference that will be held on April 2-4, 2013 in Austin.
